Boiler Repair in Doncaster
Boiler repair is usually needed at the worst possible moment — a cold morning, no hot water, and a house full of people who need to get out of the door. We cover Doncaster and the surrounding villages for breakdowns, diagnose the fault properly before quoting, and carry the parts that account for most common failures. If you have no heating or no hot water at all, ring us rather than filling in a form.
Common Boiler Faults We See in Doncaster
Most breakdowns come down to a short list of components, and knowing which one has gone tells you a great deal about the cost before anyone opens the case.
- Low pressure. Usually a leak somewhere on the system or a failed expansion vessel. Topping up repeatedly treats the symptom, not the cause.
- Diverter valve. Heating works but hot water does not, or vice versa. Extremely common on combi boilers past seven or eight years.
- Plate heat exchanger. Lukewarm or fluctuating hot water. Scale is the usual culprit, and Doncaster’s harder water accelerates it.
- Pump failure. Boiler fires but radiators stay cold. Sometimes seized rather than dead, which is a cheaper outcome.
- PCB fault. Random lockouts, unresponsive controls, error codes that clear then return. The most expensive single component on most boilers.
- Fan or air pressure switch. Boiler attempts ignition then locks out. Often signalled by a specific error code.
- Frozen condensate pipe. A winter-only fault, and frequently something you can resolve yourself.
The condensate one is worth knowing about because it costs nothing to fix. If your boiler locks out during a cold snap and the error code points to condensate, the external pipe has likely frozen. Pouring warm — not boiling — water over the exposed section usually clears it. If it recurs every winter, the pipe needs relagging or rerouting, which is a genuine repair.
How We Diagnose Before We Quote
We charge for a diagnostic visit and then quote the repair separately, because the alternative — quoting blind over the phone — is how people end up paying for parts they did not need.
- Fault code and history. What the boiler is reporting, and what it was doing beforehand.
- System checks. Pressure, flow and return temperatures, gas working pressure, flue gas analysis.
- Component testing. Electrical testing of the suspect parts rather than replacing on assumption.
- Written quote. Part cost, labour, and an honest assessment of whether the repair is worth doing on that boiler.
That last point matters. On an older boiler we will tell you if the repair is uneconomic, and we will give you the replacement figure alongside it so you can compare. Sinking £600 into a fifteen-year-old boiler that needs another £400 next winter is a decision you should make with the full picture.
All gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers, which is a legal requirement rather than a preference. Anyone can verify an engineer’s registration on the Gas Safe Register, and you should — including with us.
Boiler Repair Costs in Doncaster
Diagnostic visit charged separately from the repair. Part prices vary by make and model, so these are typical fitted ranges.
- Diagnostic callout — from £85, deducted from the repair cost if you proceed
- Expansion vessel — from £160 to £280
- Diverter valve — from £220 to £380
- Pump replacement — from £240 to £420
- Plate heat exchanger — from £280 to £480
- Fan replacement — from £280 to £460
- PCB replacement — from £350 to £600
- Leak trace and repair — from £120, depending on access
Where a repair approaches a third of the cost of a new boiler and the unit is over ten years old, we will say so plainly.
Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can you attend?
Same day where we can, next day in almost all cases. No heating or no hot water is prioritised over routine work. Phone rather than email — a form sitting in an inbox overnight is no use to anyone in a cold house.
Do you charge a callout fee?
We charge for the diagnostic visit and deduct it from the repair cost if you go ahead. That way you are not paying twice, and we are not guessing at the fault to win the job.
My boiler keeps losing pressure — is that serious?
It means water is leaving the system somewhere. Sometimes it is a visible joint, sometimes a radiator valve, sometimes a failed expansion vessel that only shows under load. Topping up weekly is not a fix and it introduces fresh oxygenated water each time, which accelerates corrosion.
Is it worth repairing an old boiler?
Sometimes. A well-maintained boiler with one failed component is usually worth fixing. A boiler on its third repair in two winters, or one with obsolete parts, is not. We give you both figures and let you decide.
Will a repair affect my warranty?
Not if it is carried out by a registered engineer using appropriate parts and recorded properly. Work by an unregistered fitter, or non-approved parts, will invalidate most manufacturer warranties.

If your boiler has broken down, phone us — that is faster than any form. If it is limping along rather than dead, book a diagnostic and we will tell you what is actually wrong before anything gets replaced. Most faults are cheaper than people fear, and the ones that are not are worth knowing about before winter properly sets in.
